Railay Beach, Krabi, Thailand (2)

After spending 8 nights on Koh Tao, we finally made our way off the east coast and over the east coast.

Koh Tao was a great place to get reinitiated with Thailand once again. There were lots of busy places but also lots of places you could go to disappear. I also met lots of locals who my parents how met over their numerous trips to the island. We were treated especially well by the staff at a restaurant called Whitening. They are wonderful people and I hope to see them again.

Moving on to my travel day yesterday. We started by waiting for our ferry to Chumporn, which was 30 minutes late. Once we got out on the ferry, I remembered that I had never really been on a choppy ferry ride before....until that day. We were negotiating 2-3 metre waves and once I saw the water crashing over the side of the boat, and the staff haanding out multiple barf bags, I knew it was going to be a long ride. After 30 minutes of Bejewelled and watching Mr Bean, I was officially queezy and went into the fetal position. I curled up in a ball, closed my eyes and hoped for the best. I did managed to make it without getting sick, but my mom and dozens on others were not so lucky. So in order to back up this great start to the day we had a 5 hour ride in a van not made for people my size. And then we missed our next boat and were taken to a tremendously sketchy pier before we took a long tail boat in complete darkness. Good times.

Once we got here, I went quickly to sleep because there are some amazing sights to see here, despite the fact that it's become tourist central. I started with hiking up to the view point over the beach and then to Princess Lagoon which features one of the least accessible trails ever made. That place is like a little piece of heaven. There's no one around, perfectly still and it's always an accomplishment just to make it there.

After today, it's back to multi-modal transportation as we make our way by long-tail, bus, and ferry to Koh Lipe. Hopefully the internet situation is good there.

Here are the photo highlights from Railay Beach. Enjoy
